John Cage was arguably one of the most influential American composers of the 20th century. His avant-garde manipulation of sound was completely novel during the height of his working in the 40s, 50s, and 60s.
His legacy is one that's been closely followed by the New World Symphony orchestral academy in Miami. In 2013, the New World Symphony commemorated the centennial of Cage's birth with a three day festival, and this week they are launching a website, "Making the Right Choices: A John Cage Celebration," to give Cage fans even greater access to his work.
Weighing in on this project and the work of John Cage is Howard Herring, president and CEO of New World Symphony.
